Sustainability @ Hotel Oderberger
We tribute great importance to the sustainable use of resources and would like to make a contribution as a hotel and event venue. Sustainability is an important component of our corporate strategy and we do not understand sustainability purely in the ecological sense, but also integrate social and economic aspects.
We have been certified with the Green Sign label since 2022. If you have any suggestions on how we can become even more sustainable let us know, we love to hear your ideas!
Resource efficient energies & water consumption
We use 100% green electricity and our websites are hosted on servers powered by 100% green electricity. All of our rooms are fully equipped with LED lighting fixtures. Our light fixtures throughout the site are being gradually converted to LED fixtures.
The power connection in the rooms interrupts automatically when the room card is removed. In addition, we are working with timers and motion detectors to avoid unnecessary power consumption. An e-charging point is to be installed on the hotel premises.
The heaters have smart thermostats and switch off automatically when the windows are open or the desired temperature is reached. We have our very own heat and power plant on campus and use the extra heat from our heating system to produce electricity.
There is an in-house well for watering the green areas (no filtered drinking water required), and we collect rainwater in an in-house infiltration trench, which is also used for irrigation. In all hotel rooms and public areas, there are signs on water taps for economical water usage.
Avoiding plastic waste, paperless office & digitization
Waste separation is a matter of course for us, and at the same time we are continuously working to reduce our waste production. Especially at the breakfast buffet, we try to avoid plastic waste and do not use individual packaging and plastic straws. In order to avoid food waste, we work with the App TooGoodToGo to rescue food.
In the hotel rooms, SPA and public areas, organic shower gel and lotion come from refillable dispensers. With the so-called Green Option, our guests can voluntarily voluntarily forego cleaning their rooms for the sake of the environment.
Digital guest folders in the form of tablets eliminate the need for paper flyers or information brochures made of paper. In general, the consistent digitization of front- and back-office processes helps to reduce paper consumption to a to a minimum, e.g. through digital check-in, automatic sending of invoices by e-mail, etc. Where we need paper: we use only recycled paper.
Regionality & Biodiversity
We pay attention to sustainable and regional produce, e.g. from our suppliers of food & beverage (Andraschko Kaffeemanufaktur Berlin, Berliner Honig, Berlinsky Sekt, Rollberg Fassbier from Neukölln and BRLO Bier from Kreuzberg). On our campus with extensive green spaces we have two herb gardens and fruit trees, whose products are used in the kitchens. A bee hotel, flower meadows, our own compost and bird houses provide habitat and shelter for insects and small animals.
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
For us, sustainability means not only ecological awareness, but also social commitment. We regularly donate to the RambaZamba Theater and Pfeffersport e.V. and thus support two important projects in our neighborhood. In addition, we regularly award scholarships for German courses to refugees through our language school.

It is important to us to be a family-friendly workplace, which is why we do not schedule standard meetings outside of the core working hours of 10am to 3pm. Flexible working hours (not only for parents) and variable hourly quotas are possible, as are sabbaticals or – where possible – mobile working at home and abroad.
